Bob Dylan Tribute Album Released in Jan

“Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International” is slated to release on January 24 in North America and the album will hit international stores on Febuary 6, 2012. The album consists of a 4 disc CD which contains 73 tracks. 76 tracks can be individually downloaded and packed into a digital album.

It is to be noted that Amnesty International has seen incredible and liberal international support from various music retailers such as Amazon, Google Music, iTunes, Starbucks and many more. The tracks of Chimes Of Freedom are already playing across NPR radio network such as KCRW-LA, WXPN-PHILLY and across multiple SiriusXM satellite channels.

The new album’s proceeds are expected to benefit Amnesty International’s efforts to free political prisoners across the globe and the album features voices of veteran as well as young artists.

While on one hand you have 92 year folk singer Pete Seeger, on the other hand you have the voice of the young Miley Cyrus. The album is dedicated to thousands of people worldwide who are imprisoned or threatened for peacefully expressing their beliefs. Dylan came up with his first album in 1962 after Amnesty International began its fight for prisoners of conscience. Dylan started as Guthrie clone but evolved himself as widely lauded singer and song writer. His initial exposure is credited to Joan Baez who recorded his songs.

This is not the first time that an album is being released on similar lines. In 2007, an album titled “Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur” for which several veteran and young artists recorded songs of John Lennon fetched the organization more than $ 4 million. It remains to be seen how this album performs and at the same time how much it helps in Amnesty International’s cause.
